Before filing

We check more than
the certificate itself

An apostille is not required for every country. The Russian Ministry of Internal Affairs is competent to apostille criminal record certificates issued by Russian internal affairs bodies. The actual route also depends on the document format, method of issue and the foreign recipient’s requirements.

01 / COUNTRY

We identify the procedure

We establish whether an apostille applies, consular legalisation is required or a treaty removes the legalisation requirement.

02 / FORMAT

We inspect the certificate

We check whether it was issued on paper or electronically, whether the details, signature and seal are legible, and whether the document can be filed.

03 / RECIPIENT

We confirm the requirements

We ask how recent the certificate must be, whether a translation is needed and which certification method the authority, employer or university accepts.

Which document you have

Paper, electronic
or foreign certificate

Option 01Russia

Paper certificate issued by the MVD

We inspect its details and confirm whether this certificate can be filed. The authority, scope, state fee and full quote are then provided.

Option 02Gosuslugi

Electronic certificate

Printing an electronic file does not automatically turn it into a paper original. We first check how it was issued and explain a safe apostille route.

Option 03Another country

Foreign certificate

An apostille for a foreign police certificate is normally obtained in its country of issue. In Russia, the completed certificate and apostille can be translated and certified.

Where it is presented

Residence and citizenship

An immigration authority may request a certificate for a specified period and set its own rules for the issue date, apostille, translation language and certification.

Employment and licensing

The certificate may be required by an employer, professional regulator or licensing body. We confirm the document name and accepted issue date before work begins.

Education and placements

Universities, schools and programme organisers may include a background check in their requirements. It is important to establish whether an electronic certificate and which translation are accepted.

Adoption and family matters

Family and court procedures make the certificate’s freshness, accurate personal details and consistent name spelling across every document particularly important.

How it works

From reviewing the file
to the finished set

01 / REVIEW

We receive a scan or file

Send every page of the certificate and name the destination country and organisation. Include any instructions supplied by the recipient.

02 / ROUTE

We confirm the procedure

The document format and competent authority are checked, with handling, state fee, translation, notarisation and delivery priced separately.

03 / APOSTILLE

We arrange the filing

The complete set is checked before filing with the competent MVD unit. We manage the procedure through collection of the document.

04 / TRANSLATION

We prepare it for use

The certificate and apostille are translated together, name spelling is agreed, and any required notarisation and delivery are arranged.

The finished set

What one order
can include

MVD apostille

We arrange filing of an eligible Russian certificate with the competent unit after checking the country and document format.

Complete translation

Certificate details, official titles, signatures, seals and the full apostille text are translated without omissions or arbitrary abbreviations.

Name check

The Latin spelling of each name is checked against the passport and other documents so the finished set does not contain conflicting variants.

Certification and delivery

We arrange the required certification of the translation and deliver the paper set in Moscow or agree shipment to another city.

Sequence

The apostille usually comes before translation

The Russian certificate is normally apostilled first, after which the complete document and stamp are translated. Translating the certificate too early may mean ordering another translation once the apostille has been added.

The general rules are explained on our apostille services page, while the available certification options are described under notarised translation.

Criminal record apostille questions

Where is a Russian criminal record certificate apostilled?

A certificate issued by Russian internal affairs bodies is apostilled by the competent unit of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. We check the certificate format and identify the appropriate filing route before submission.

Can an electronic Gosuslugi certificate be apostilled?

An electronic certificate and an ordinary printout are not automatically equivalent to a paper original. Eligibility depends on the issue format and the competent authority’s procedure. Send us the original file so we can check the route before payment.

How recent must the certificate be?

There is no single period accepted by every foreign organisation. The receiving immigration authority, employer, university or court normally sets its own freshness requirement. Written instructions should be obtained before ordering where possible.

Should the certificate be translated before or after the apostille?

The apostille is usually obtained first, then the certificate and stamp are translated together so the translation covers the complete document. We use a different sequence only when the receiving organisation requires it.

Can a foreign criminal record certificate be apostilled in Russia?

An apostille for a foreign official document is normally obtained in its country of issue. In Russia, the completed certificate and apostille can be translated and any required certification of the translation arranged.

How much does the service cost and how long does it take?

Our handling service starts at RUB 4,500. The state fee, translation, notarisation and delivery are priced separately. Timing and the full quote are confirmed after we check the certificate, destination country and recipient’s requirements.
